Suggest Treatment For Hard Soreness Inside Left Calf After A Sport Injury

I play roller derby. 1 week and 2 days ago I was hit by a skate on the inside of my left calf. It is very sore. It is an area as big as my fist. The outside of the bruise is green but there is a quarter size in the center that is hard, red, and sore. It feels warm. The size has been decreasing but not sure about this area. I have been applying heat approx. 4-6 times a day and elevating it when I can.

Hello,

A day or two ago you got hit by a skate on the inside of your left calf. Presently, it is very warm, hard, red and sore. You are suffering from calf contusion. Redness and soreness is indicative of increased cutaneous blood flow due to inflammation. While greenish-blue discoloration may be due to accumulation of blood below the skin due to trauma or low oxygen or hemoglobin level in the bruised area.

You are suggested to apply ointment Thrombophob on the area affected to disperse blood clots and reduce swelling. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP and get your calf muscles evaluated. Get an ultrasound with doppler and MRI done. Give rest, cold compress or ice pack may help. Keep your affected leg elevated on a stool when sitting or on a pillow when on bed. Do not put your weight on the affected leg, use assistive device or crutch for a couple of days.

You can take Combiflam or Naproxen, one SOS when required for relief. It should get well in a week or two. Get connected to a Physical therapist. Control your blood glucose level at all cost. Limit your sugar intake for a better and faster recovery. If not, you may be recommended surgery if your calf pain is not responding to non surgical treatment, or if complete muscle tear with serious swelling or internal bleeding is detected. Get connected to a physical therapist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
