Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started having headaches since the 21 of December, by the 23 I was exhausted. I went to the doctors and advised him I was hoarking up dark green phlem, coughing, chills and he told me to take cough medicine and no antibiotics. He said it was likely a virus. By not doing a swab how does he know this. I am still coughing and exhausted. I have been sleeping quite a bit but do need to get back to work. Should I go back to the doctor or would this be wasting my time again. My family doc is away until the 11th and I had gone to an after hours clinic. Thanks
You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP and get swab, sputum, blood tests done. Get X-ray chest, CT and MRI (if needed). Green phlegm is indicative of infection. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and your clinical condition. Stay away from stress, stay well hydrated.
For headache you can take acetaminophen or naproxen, one SOS when needed. Take antihistamines, one at bed time for 7-10 days for relief. Gargle with warm saline water 2-3 times daily. Take steam inhalation for relieve. Take multivitamin supplements.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
