Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. The problem of poor sleep and non refreshing sleep is aggravating the headache. You are not able to sleep properly and some times the
sleeplessness persist even for 2-3 days. In such case I'd advise you to visit a psychiatrist for help. For poor sleep medicines like Z-drugs or Benzodiazepines can be used for short time.
Clonazepam,
Lorazepam, Zolpidem etc can be used on SOS basis. Other drugs like
Mirtazapine, Trazodone,
Paroxetine, Amitryptiline etc can also prove useful. These medicines will help to improve your headache and will help in good sleep. Z-drugs and benzodiazepines are known to cause dependence and have abuse potential so should be used under proper supervision of a doctor only. Please
consult a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs. I will also advise you to improve
sleep hygiene in addition to medicines. Try to follow these steps and this will help in good sleep.
- Have warm water bath in evening and this will help in good sleep.
- Light exercise during evening will also help in sleep.
- Try to avoid day time naps.
- Fix your time to go to bed. Don't remain active till late in night. Try to go to bed before 11 in night.
- Try not to think about not getting sleep again and again. Remain relaxed and if by any chance you fail to get sleep with in 15 minutes of going to bed then get up and try to divert your attention.
- Avoid using mobile, laptop from bed. Don't make bedroom as TV or study room. Use your bed for sleeping only.
Thanks, Hope this helps you.
Take care
Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi,
Psychiatrist.
