Suggest Treatment For Headache Caused By An Injury

My 12 year-old daughter bumped her head last night. She has a slight bump which is not red and can just be slightly felt. However, she had a bad headache, she has had painkillers last night and today but is now feeling dizzy, with a bad headache. Should she go to hospital or will they just say to watch her closely?

Hello. I have been through your question and understand your concern.

After a head trauma it is very important the absence of loss of consciousness, vomiting, and neurological deficits.

Still, in the presence of persisting headache you should seriously consider a neurological consult because your daughter might need a cranial CT.

Headache is common after head trauma, but it should not persist this long. That is why you better have a neurological consult. I would recommend a cranial CT.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free for further questions.
