Suggest Treatment For Headache Due To Head Injury

Hi, Last night I banged my head pretty hard on the wall behind my bed. After it occurred my head was hurting but just a head ache pain. Now my head was fine when I awoke, but I went to lay down and it started hurting more. Just a bigger headache feeling with a weird feeling in my cheeks. I did take advil, but the pain is back. What should I do? IS this a concussion or just a head ache?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Head injuries can be very tricky to diagnose. No head injury can be considered minor. To rule out complications please get yourself examined by a doctor and get a an x-ray skull PA and lateral view. Get re-evaluated by doctor if symptoms persist.

Watch out for symptoms like vomiting, bleeding ear or nose or mouth. unconsciousness, altered sensorium, blurring of vision, severe or persistent headache and report to a hospital immediately. You can continue with Advil if it helps you. Apply ice at site of injury to prevent haematoma formation. Avoid calmpose or other sedating drugs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Roy
