Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Sir my son is 1year 10months old and he doesnot response to sound but sometimes on clapping he respond. Due to delay speech after consultation with doctor we perform bera test. The result show no identifiable bera wave in 80,90 and 100dbnl. He is suffering severe to profound hear loss. Can hearing aid be helpfull at this stage
Noted the short history about your 1 year 10 month old child having profound hearing loss as detected by BERA test and this has cause the loss of speech. The person who can not listen can not speak. Surely hearing aid can be tried and if there is any improvement then it can be continued under the care of an ENT Surgeon Specialized in hearing things and Speech therapist as well as Audiologist. If this doe not help then the best way is to go for specialized evaluation and Cochlear implant if possible along with specialized speech training for him to to able to listen and hear faster so that his learning ability, social skills and everything to life will be improved dramatically.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
