Suggest Treatment For Heavy Menstrual Bleeding And Pain After Changing Pills

I have a question about pains during heavy periods. Normally I only have my period for 1-3 days and it s very light. I was previously taking the pill (Levlen) and switched to Micronelle and I ve now had my period for 13 days with very heavy bleeding and clotting. My doctor advised me to stop the pill and I have a blood test and ultrasound booked Monday. I m having severe stomach cramps and having to change my tampon hourly, I m not sure whether to wait through the pain or go to emergency.?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Because you are having severe bleeding and abdominal cramps I would advise you to go to the emergency yard and have the ultrasound done. This to make sure you are not loosing too much blood and developing anemia and also to determine the cause of your symptoms and be treated promptly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
