Treatment of chronic HCV infection has 2 goals. The first is to achieve sustained eradication of HCV, which is defined as the persistent absence of HCV RNA in serum 6 months or more after completing antiviral treatment. The second goal is to prevent progression to cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and decompensated liver disease requiring liver transplantation.
If despite of repeated antiviral injection your mother HCV RNA is persisting in that case, stop taking injectable now. Start medical therapy with tablet Ribavarin, get a biopsy of liver done every year or two. RNA titre should be checked again after 6 months of treatment with Ribavarin.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ramesh Kumar
