Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had an upper GI test yesterday which showed that I have a hiatal hernia the size of a lemon. I am 71 and would like to know the best was to treat it. I also have a chronic cough that was supposedly coming from scared lungs as a result of radiation for breast cancer. The cough and indigestion has gotten much worse. What do you recommend?
Hello dear Understand your concern. I think you are suffering from hiatus hernia of oesophagus which lead to development of GERD. Yes Bed breath may be due to this only. Consult the surgeon and do test like barium meal and endoscopy.
But you should try followingadvice 1. Proton pump inhibitor: rabeprazole plus metocloparmide 2. NSAIDS group drug 3. Propanolol, nitroglycerin to release the esophageal sphincter tone 4. If not responds: Laser Laser Nissen Fundoplication is the option
Avoid large meal. Avoid oily, spicy and fatty food. Do not sleep after meal. Make angle of 45 degree while sleeping (Head rise position)
Hope this may help you. Best regards Dr. Sagar
