hi I have a patient who has been taking several other medications and she has high blood pressure, diabetes, and surger, so anyway her doctor prescribed her two new meds and I started her to taken them last week, well starting around Sunday she started acting weird, like she already has first stages of dementia and now it seems to have gotten a lot worse over night, she is largic most of the day, she rambles on about nothing it almost like she cannot get her words out, she has fallen around 4 to 5 times in the last couple of days, she can barley stand without loss her balance. Her walking has really gotten poor. The new medication is hydralazine, and acetaminophen-COD. I want to take her off the two new meds because she was doing fine before she started taking them last week. give me your thoughts

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It sounds like your patient has developed delirium, and so I would agree with you that Hydralazine and Acetaminophen-Codeine should be held since both of them can cause an altered mental status. You might also consider checking her blood for signs of infection or other electrolyte abnormalities that might be causing delirium.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch,
