Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi doctors, my mom has been diagnosed with bloid pressure for 5 years and she takes the medication olmetec, recently like 6 months shes been having blood pressure of 160/80 and now she has blood pressure of 200/100 and she feels light headed, please I need medical advise.thanks
It seems like Olmesartan (Olmetec) alon is not enough anymore to control your mother's blood pressure (at least not in the currrent dosage) so her current therapy should be changed. It is not uncommon for patients with high blood pressure to need more then one drug and luckily modern medicine offers several other classes of drugs which can be added to Olmetec like beta-blockers (metoprolol, bisoprolol etc), calcium channel blockers (amlodipine, lercanidipine etc), diuretics (hydrochlorthiazide etc) and others. They are prescription drugs so you should discuss with your doctor which one is more appropriate for your mothers considering her heart rate, other medical conditions, possible side effects.
I hope to have been of help.
