Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My brother has encephalopathy from an extremely high blood pressure event, 270 over 140. He is currently in the hospital and is able to now communicate. The first day he would have periods of delusion. He also had periods where he didn t remember things and people. He has already recovered to some extent. Will he be able to fully recover from this or has this probably caused some sort of irreversible brain damage leading to eventual dementia? Other factors are that he had a successful heart procedure 2 years ago and he isdiabetic. He is quite cognizant today and although there is blurred speech, is able to communicate complete thoughts fully. He also answers questions.
The both diabetes and hypertension cause irreversible brain damages. If he is in hospital from a stroke only Mannitol can help.
He can reduce brain edema and improve somehow but not fully recover.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka ,
