Suggest Treatment For High BP Despite Taking Medication

My bp has been high for 20 years or more with the top number being 175 and my lower number in the 60s. No matter what medications I am on it seems my top number rarely comes down below 150. I am 70 years old. I do not understand why my top number is always so high and I have been to 3 doctors and no one seems to fix it. I wonder it there is something wrong with my heart causing this since no one has ordered any tests. I would like your opinion.

hello there.
i have read your query and your given history
it would be really helpful if you could give more details, what medications you are on/were on and whether you have any other conditions like high serum cholestrol or diabetes or any other conditions etc

looking at you history,if you were a new patient of mine having hypertension and of 70 years,i would recommend the following:
1)a healthy balanced diet ,low on sodium and a mild exercise regimen spanning 30minutes every day on a level ground

2)start telmisartan 40mg with hydrochlorthiazide 6.25mg twice daily for 1 months and record bp every week for assessing efficacy

yes,the difference in bp values at the top(systolic) and bottom(diastolic) is called pulse pressure and ideally in 40-50 range.

This can be attributed to your age which might have resulted in heart valves and aorta losing elasticity and causing regurgitation or some other pathology of the heart

3)i would advise you to take an ekg and echo of the heart to assess the cardiac status and follow up with a cardiologist for further management

Hope i cleared your doubts and hope it helps.if any doubts, pls do followup.
good day
