Suggest Treatment For High BP, Neck Pain And Vertigo

I am 69, female, clean yearly exam this June. I want to know if these symptoms are allergies or possibly something else. I made a doctor appt. for Thursday. I take high blood pressure meds, thyroid meds and Paxil. Here are my symptoms: earaches, intermittent both ears, fleeting dizziness/fuzzy-headedness that makes me nauseus, back of the neck pain, feeling alternating hot and cold, just yucky and sapped of energy. I have never had hot flashes to matter, have seen an Eye/Ear/Nose Specialist a couple of years ago, who thought the earaches were allergy related. I take Allegra. The feelings of hot/cold and the neckache are new. I have had bouts of vertigo before, which my doctor associated with allergies. The neckache/nausea though are like a low migraine. My question is: are these all just allergy symptoms? If I take 2 naproxen it helps slightly for a short time only. I just want to lay flat.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

•     Vertigo is a symptom, rather than a condition itself and treatment depends on rught cause. You should see your GP if you have persistent signs of vertigo or it keeps coming back.

Causes of vertigo may include: benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, migraines – severe headaches, labyrinthitis – an inner ear infection.

Medicines, such as prochlorperazine and some antihistamines, can help in the early stages or most cases of vertigo.

Also, we recommend: do simple exercises to correct your symptoms, sleep with your head slightly raised on two or more pillows, avoid bending down to pick up items, avoid extending your neck – for example, while reaching up to a high shelf.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
