Suggest Treatment For High Blood Pressure With Swollen Ankles And Feet

I have high blood pressure and swollen feet and ankles. I have started taking hydochorothazide and the swelling in my feet and ankle has gone , but not the blood pressure. And why would get these two conditions , I am 57 , healthy, fairly active and I eat pretty healthy.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history about having high blood pressure, edema over ankles and feet which responded to Hydrochlorothiazide but the blood pressure is not lowered, you are 57 years old and healthy otherwise taking healthy food and fairly active.
The diuretic called Hydrochlorothiazide has removed excessive salt from body through urine hence the extra water too is extracted out by kidney reducing the edema over ankles and feet.
This should have ideally helped to reduce the blood pressure to normal.
This has not helping means there are other reasons for your high blood pressure as follows with remedies:
The commonest cause being stress and anxiety, you have to reduce by all means like keeping calm, avoid stress and anxiety, avoid factors that are causing such things.
Kidney diseases to be ruled out by Ultrasonography and blood tests for kidney function.
Hypothyroidism to be checked for and treated if present.
Do all these things under the guidance of a Physician and you will have normal blood pressure with or without necessary medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
