Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently started taking Novalog (Saturday actually) and so far, i can not get my sugars down at all. I had a pretty low carb lunch, my blood sugar was 266 before lunch, i took 20 units and an hour later it is 321! It has not been under 200 since starting Novalog and I was instructed to start at 10 units
The goals for diabetes are: (1)fasting and premeal of 70 to 130 (2) 2 hour post meal of less than 180
Novalog is a fast acting insulin that is used to help control blood sugars with meals but you also need a baseline/background insulin. Our body's normally release a level of insulin in the background and the levels then spike with meals to control these blood sugars.
The novalog is to replace the insulin spike that should occur but a long acting insulin is needed to be the background insulin.
I hope this helps
