Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My great-granddaughter is a year old and has been diagnosed with a UTI. She was runing a high fever for a few days and since she has had ear infections before, it was thought to be another infection of the ears. Today the doctor said it didn t look like a problem with the ears. They then used a catheter to draw urine and checked it - diagnosed a UTI. She is now on antiobotics. Is this usual for a 1 year old to develop a UTI?
As you said she had ear infection previously and later she had a fever. As during any kind of infection, there is decreased immunity and easy chances of getting infection from any other organism is possible. Specially in children they are not immune like adults for different organisms.
It is possible that she got the UTI during decreased immunity period or in general as well it can happen. Children are prone to get any infection fast as they are not immune to every organism and they are developing immunity during their growth. So do not worry and follow your doctor’s advice on the treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Manisha Auradkar,
