Suggest Treatment For High Fever In A Toddler With Mumps
hello, my son is 2 years and 3 months old. He has mumps near left year from past 6 days. Swelling has been reduced 80% almost. But since yesterday, suddenly he has high fever (103 degrees) every 5 hours. We are giving him paracetamol. We are confused as he used to get fever up to 100-101 every 7-8 hours. Kindly suggest.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Complete relief from mumps takes about 2 weeks time. High-grade fever &pain can continue till 3 days.
These you have to repeat syrup Ibuprofen /paracetamol every six hours. You can use cold sponging for relieving high-grade fever.
Keep the baby well hydrated Give light nourishing diet In case of uncontrollable fever/if it lasts longer. Take her to a pediatrician for injectable medicines.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
