Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am pre diabetic for last 20 years. I am 54 now. Taking tonact TG for trigliciride for past 3 years. Total Cholestrol is less than 130. TG is also below 150. BP is usually 110/70 with medicine, regular exercise and DASH. My sugar level has increased after Tonact TG it is now 125/190 earlier it used to be 110/140. Should I stop Statin
It is less likely that blood glucose and blood pressure fluctuations to happen, after 3 years of initiation of statin therapy. I would advise against stopping statin, without proper evaluation by a medical expert.
The use of statins in diabetic and hypertensive patients have shown positive impact in reduction of cardio-vascular events in many studies conducted world-wide. I suggest you to consider seeing your treating physician, to look into the current medications prescribed for diabetes and hypertension.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef, General & Family Physician
