Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
High blood pressure is very common in stressful situations while the average blood pressure is a better value to use as a guide to treatment. Before treating there is a process of diagnosis and evaluation.
You will need to have some tests first to check your sugar, lipids,
kidney function,
urinalysis, ECG or heart
ultrasound and than according to the results treatment is chosen and individualized.
There are two kind of treatments that most of time have to be combined.
1. lifestyle: less fat and less salt in diet. Less calories, avoid junk food. You already are doing great by not
smoking, no alcohol use. If your BMI is over 25 loosing weight is helpful in blood pressure control. Some exercises daily or at least every other day is helpful.
2. medications that will be chosen after the tests mentioned. Most used medications are ace inhibitors (
enalapril) first line in white patients and calciblockers (
amlodipine) in other patients.
So I would recommend you to try the lifestyle measures and if blood pressure still is high in 3-4 months you need to see a doctor and have the tests mentioned and take the proper treatment.
Hope this is helpful and answers to your question
