Suggest Treatment For Hyperthyroidism

I have Hyperthyroidism for the last 4 years. Initially I was on Neomercazole but doctor stopped it after 2 years. After that I have been on Homeopathy. Recently my FT4 has increased to 2.76 and TSH is 0.009. I am taking Iodium 200 everyday for the last one month. Can my disease be controlled beacuse I am seeing no improvement?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are many ways to deal with thyroid problems. All depend on your age, marital/kids status, wish to retain your fertility and severity of your symptoms.

I would suggest consulting your endocrinologist, stopping Iodium medicine for now, and get your thyroid scan done. If it shows a single nodule or diffused increase in radio-isotope intake, you can go for Radio-iodine Ablation therapy if you do not care for fertility.

This has an additional benefit that you may not need supplemental Thyroxine tablets daily as radio-ablation would destroy only the hyperactive part of your thyroid. The remaining thyroid tissue would proliferate over few months and you would be euthyroid again.

All this process needs a proper consultation with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ameet Kumar
