Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had my physical recently. my fast blood sugar was 113. I am 65 years old. I was actually reactive hypoglycemic from earlry 20s to mid 50s. ( 5 hr. test readings of as low as 38) My Dr. wants me to see him next week to discuss. won t do so over the phone. I do take medications for lower back stenosis adn bph and1 allergy med I do watch the carbs and don t eat sweets
As the blood sugar after eating is as low as 38, I think this is a case of reactive hypoglycemia. Insulin levels should get checked further together with liver/pancreas function test.
Ultrasound examination of the abdomen is also recommended for diagnosis.
Following low carb diet is a possible cause to hypoglycemia. But first should check the levels of insulin.
Hope this helps. Dr.Albana
