Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism And Hashimoto's Disease

Hi I don't really have symptoms except occasional tiredness but my TSH was 15, free T4 11, free T3 4.3 and antibodies 229. The endocrinologist diagnosed sub-clinical hypothyroidism and likely Hashimoto's. Although suggesting I start on 25mcg Levo-thyroxine, they left the decision to me. I've just turned 70 and am otherwise fit. My query is whether additional nutritional, exercise, lifestyle, and vitamin/mineral can rectify SH/Hashimotos, or am I kidding myself and will need thyroid hormone treatment? I read a research paper that stated, "No study has ever demonstrated that early L-thyroxine intervention improves the outcomes of subjects with SH." Your view would be much appreciated.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I a so sorry to hear about this diagnosis of hypothyroidism. There are no herbal products or lifestyle modifications that can compensate for low thyroid functioning. With a TSH of 15, I find it very important to go on thyroid hormone supplementation. This would do so much good to you. Also, tiredness, though occasional is a symptom of hypothyroidism and who wants to go about an easily treatable condition without being treated for? Please, science has its contradictions but you are not a subclinical candidate with hypothyroidism as you have reported symptoms.

I hope this helps. I wish you well and thank you so much for using our services. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
