I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and PCOS in 2004 and had been being monitored for thyroid problems since 1994. Since 2004, I have gone through periods of roughly every 12-18 months slipping back into symptoms of hypothyroidism.
My current endocrinologist tells me that my thyroid levels are fine and that it is my PCOS that is causing my symptoms: cold hands/feet, dry skin/hair, brittle nails, loss of hair, extreme fatigue, weight gain, memory loss/difficulty concentrating, skin sensitivity, facial hair growth, constipation, decreased libido and mood swings.
My current treatment is 88mcg of Synthroid, 500mg of Metformin taken twice daily and Tri-Sprintec birthcontrol pills. My endocrinologist told me that it would take up to six months for me to notice a difference in my symptoms from the Metformin. It has been three months so far and I feel as terrible as ever. Is this normal or do I need to find a new doctor?
