Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism And Low Testosterone Levels
My 39 yr old son has severe hypothyroidism with recent TSH above 22. Is currently on Synthroid 200 mcg QD. Not effective, but MD afraid to increase dose at this time because he also has WPW. Several years ago an attempted ablation was performed, but the extra pathway was right next to the atrial node so they abandoned the procedure. He was also recently diagnosed as having a very low testoterone and has just started weekly IM injections. Is there any precautions he needs to be aware of or advice. He is scheduled to see a new endocrinologist.
Such numerous problems could have been due to the following reasons and may need detailed investigations in addition to the ones already done. There is a condition called MEN that is Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia and needs evaluation, blood tests and Imaging of all the hormonal glands. MRI of pituitary is a must when the TSH is not coming down in spite of high dose of Synthroid. Surely a new endocrinologist may listen to all these points, get your son well investigated so that a proper management can be done.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
