Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism For A 50-year-old Female
I am a 50 yr old female (last menstrual cycle 2007) with all the symptoms of Hypothyroidism, extreme hair loss (50% loss across forehead area), excessive weight gain (30 lbs in the last 6 months), fatigue, muscle aches weakness and constipation. All labs for TSH have come back normal as well as B-12, Folic Acid, vitamin D and iron all normal. Very concerned and starting to get really depressed.
All your symptoms such as weight gain, loss of hair, fatigue, constipation etc., may mimic hypothyroidism but if your lab reports for thyroid are normal then there must be other reason for your symptoms and had I been your doctor, I'd have given you HRT (hormone replacement therapy) because your symptoms are more likely due to lack of hormones resulting from menopause. I suggest you consult a gynecologist for further management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Prabhash Verma, General & Family Physician
