Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism

I have hypothyroidism and my symptoms are out of control. It went from too high and now its too low. It s been adjusted three times and I am miserable. I had Gastric Bypass in July of last year which may be why its going haywire on me. I was taking 1.25 and it s been increased to 1.37, is there something else going on or is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is not uncommon for the patients of hypothyroidism a need to adjust their dose of Thyroxine frequently in some cases. You are advised to titrate your dose of Thyroxine according to your levels of T3, T4 and TSH. This dose is to be increased or decreased in a gradual manner and not abruptly. You are advised to adjust your dose of thyroxine monthly in the beginning, till your levels of T3, T4 and TSH are stable. After this, the dose may be adjusted every 3 months and finally after every 6 months.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
