The most common treatment for hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid is Levothyroxine (Eltroxin is a brand name).
What is most important in treating hypothyroidism is to find the right dose.
It depends on the TSH level.
Normally, 6 weeks after starting treatment you should check the TSH level, if it is within the normal ranges than the dose is correct, otherwise it should be corrected.
