My dad had a wound in mouth for atleat one year that slowly grown in size and increased pain. Doctor said it is a cancer and he undergo an operation and said that before operation it can be reduced by injection. So he took injection for 4 weeks. His body became weak and lost hair by injection. The wbc count and lymphocyte were normal before injection but wbc count reduced and lymphocyte percentage increased to 70% after. What does that say?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic. I have gone through your query and I understand your concern.

As I understood, the injection your father did is neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
Neoadjuvant therapy is the administration of therapeutic agents before a main treatment, as in your father's case, the surgery, in order to decrease the size of the cancer before removing it. Its most common side effects include hair loss, mouth sores, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, low blood counts etc. The increased percentage of lymphocytes is due to relatively reduced total white cells blood count.

Hope I answered to your question. I wish to your father a long healthy life.

Kind Regards,
Dr. Ina Zaimi
