Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve had an indirect inguinal hernia for a few years and after a recent ultrasound it recommended that I have surgery. For the last month I have a LOT of gas and mucous accompanying it. Could these symptoms be caused by my inguinal hernia getting worse or is there something else I should suspect?
Thank you for the question. Inguinal hernia if indirect has a chance to get strangulated any day which causes symptoms of intestinal obstruction, much pain, vommiting etc and often gangrene. So it is safer to undergo surgery, repair of the defect at the hernial site.It is completely curable. Avoid lifting heavy objects and wear some truss to guard when coughing violently.
