Suggest Treatment For Infection At The Base Of Ear

Two days ago I visited my ear doctor about an infection at the base of my ear. He gave me cephalexin (Keflex) 500 mg which I ve been taking 4 X/day. He plans a short surgery tomorrow afternoon to clean out the infected area. As of this evening, the infested area started to drain. As it drained, it became less and less painful. The drainage smells terrible. Is this normal ? I ve taken a hot shower and washed the area with warm water. The swollen area has been reduced in size and the drainage is now much less. I ve covered, with a band aid, the small opening from which the drainage comes This evening my doctor is traveling and I cannot contact him. Would more antibiotic help or should I just let it be?

hi,
it seems the collection is drained..otherwise we would drain it by a surgical method..
if you have used the antibiotic for four days..take for three days more..
clean the area with betadine solution until the wound heals..maintain hygiene..
if you still have pain take ibuprofen for a couple of days..
