Suggest Treatment For Insomnia, Fatigue And Confusion
My mother is 68 yrs old she abused alcohol and cigarettes for several years. She is low functioning and I am her caregiver. My main concern for her is insomnia. She can't function, communicate, tell the difference between a dream and reality, and the fatigue causes her to fall several times a day. Help
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. She has abused alcohol for years and now she is off alcohol. Even if passage of acute withdrawal in alcohol dependence the symptoms of restlessness, confusion, insomnia, drowsiness persist of years. The symptoms she is showing are probably due to this only. She is also having difficulty to distinguish between dream and reality. Her orientation should be checked properly to rule out any delirious stage. Please take her to a psychiatrist for help. Benzodiazepines can help her to sleep and she would feel better. For her symptoms of confusion, fatigue, insomnia antipsychotics like Olanzapine, Haloperidol etc can help.
Take her to a psychiatrist for evaluation and prescription of these drugs.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
