Suggest Treatment For Insomnia While Taking Clonazepam For Anxiety

I was doing well managing my anxiety on Zoloft & clonazepam but stopped them 2+ months ago to do artifical insemination. Went through procedure last week. However for past 2-3 weeks having worsening insomnia, making it difficult to function. Is there anything I can safely use for sleep?

Hello,

Insomnia is a common side effect when clonazepam is stopped. The following are my recommendations:
1) You can take tab. Zolpidem 5mg every night for 1st week.
2) In the second week, you can take it every alternate day.
3) Then take it weekly twice in 3rd week.
4) You can then stop taking it without any side effects.
5) Please do not use it for more than 3 weeks.
6) You can take warm milk before going to bed. That will help.
7) Avoid using mobile or tv before sleep.
8) Avoid bright light at bed time.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
