Recently had a home pulse ox test. Met with doctor today. I had 7.6 min of saturation of less than 88% and 11.9 min of less than 89%. Total desaturation events = 146. My doctor insists that I go on night time oxygen. I am not so sure. How can this be, I have no problems except insomnia.
Hello ! Thank you for your question on HCM! I agree with your doctor in the fact that oxygen will be very helpful in your situation. The desaturation events are indicative for a low oxygen flow to your brain and your adrenal glands during the day. This causes a brain dysfunction . The adrenal glands are very important for the release of cortisol and Adrenaline, which help to maintain a balance of the stress in our body. The dysfunction leads to a sleep disorder like insomnia , and you are not able to have the rest that your body needs. So hyperbaric oxygen will help you maintain this balance in your body. Hope to have been of help! Greetings! Dr. Abaz Quka
