What is the best treatment to treat insomnia caused by scleroderma? my mother is on oxygen supplementation all day and she has been suffering for scleroderma for last 20 years but it is for last 5 months that her health got worse and she was required to be put on oxygen cylinder all day. Her age is 52 now and in last 3 months she lost 15 kgs weight as well. It seems scleroderma has started effecting her organs now. Her oxygen saturation drops to 80 percent when she walks even for 5 minutes but if she is on bed it stays 85 to 97. Please help.
Dear Carer I understand how challenging it is for you to cope with your mother's illness as it is quite complex and affecting her health in multiple ways. What I am most concerned about is her dramatic weight loss. 15 kg is quite severe and can be the cause of her breathing concerns other than the Scleroderma. May I suggest that you speak with her Rheumatologist for added support. Additionally, due to her extreme weight loss, it is vital that you have your mother be assessed by a specialist eating disorder service in order to help her with her eating habits and mood changes. She needs much more support than plain medical input. If you need more advice about her eating, please let me know.
