Suggest Treatment For Intense Left-sided Pain In The Lower Back
I went to the ER on Saturday with intense pain in my lower left back. After a CAT scan it was determined I had a 3mm kidney stone in my lower distal urethral. They sent me home with the directions to drink lots and take Tramadol every 12 hours. The pain continues in my lower back and I have shortness of breath with occasionally pain radiating up my left side. Is this typical behavior for a kidney stone? I ve had 3 previous ones but they passes within 24 hours.
Yes, kidney stones can cause pain in atypical fashion as well. Shortness of breath could be due to the pain and restricted chest movements as deep breaths can trigger pain sensation in the back.
3mm stone can pass by itself all you have to do is drink a lot of water to facilitate passing of stone in urine easily and take analgesia and advised by your doctor.
In addition, I advise you to take antispasmodic like drotaverine/mebeverine to relieve the spasm of the urethra.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr SAMEEN BIN NAEEM, General & Family Physician
