I have had off and on almost severe pain around my left knee for weeks. By looking at a picture of the knee, I got the idea that it was the medial collateral ligament. It hurt only went I bent it (sitting, driving walking). Standing and sleeping were no problem. I went to the doctor who gave me a prescription for a NSAID and sent me to physical therapy. Since PT it has gone from an extremely localized and predictable pain to a migrating one now involving the patella area, shooting pains in the calf sometimes, and pains as soon as I sit down and put my feet up. These weren t happening before. By the way, no one believes it is the ligament since I can t point to any specific time of injury. They also said the ligament was more on the side and not on the top side where I was feeling the pain. Well now I feel it more right on the side. These hip and glute exercises and hamstring stretches they have me do are all very well and probably fall under the category of an ounce of prevention, but I could really use a pound of cure right now. Plus, I was doing all that sort of thing before, much harder. I was working with a personal trainer at the gym. It s been kind of achy there off and on for over a year, but now it s intermittently intolerable. They told me to quit hobbling, but sometimes I have to. I get to stand for 8-10 hours a day at work and have to do a certain amount of movement as well so sitting around is not an option. I am not convinced the pills are doing any good. Any ideas? The therapists keeps nattering on about hamstrings (which don t hurt at all), and faulting tendinitis. That makes a little sense because it is intermittent. It seems like nerves misfiring to me if it isn t strained ligaments. This sucks; it never gets any better. What should I do?
