Suggest Treatment For Irregular Menstruation

Hi there, I have been having irregular periods for 5 months, doctor prescribed duphaston for 4 months to help with regulating my period. Now that I ve stopped using duphaston I am 5 days late again. We ve been trying to conceive for plus minus 8 months. Hoping you would be able to give me a bit more information regarding delayed period again.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The cause of your regular periods must be found out. It can be due to PCOS, ovarian cysts, thyroid problem, sometimes pituitary problems. You need a physical examination followed by investigations (CBC, thyroid function test, estimation of blood levels of female hormones, glucose tolerance test, USG of the pelvis). Once cause is found, specific treatment would help you. Please consult a gynecologist.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
