Suggest Treatment For Irregular Periods Post Birth Control Withdrawal

A few years ago I had periods that lasted several weeks, once it lasted for 3 months. It got so bad I had to have blood transfusions, because I lost so much blood. They found out I have hypothyroidism and gave me birth control and thyroid meds. I took them until I turned 19 and I had to stop because my insurance dropped and I cant afford them. This year my period has been very irregular and for the past 3 months or so I have not had a period, however this week I started having brown discharge and a little blood. I dont know what to do. Please help.

Hello,

First of all, do not panic. Your symptoms can be due to hypothyroidism and or polycystic ovaries syndrome (PCOS). Please get an ultrasound done to know about the ovarian volume and echotexture, to know if the cause of your irregular periods is PCOS. Also get thyroid function tests done, to know if you need thyroid hormone tablet support.

Please seek prescription support from your treating gynecologist for tablets Regestrone twice a day for five days. Usually, withdrawal bleeding occurs three to ten days after finishing the tablets. Later on, you can take the same course from day twenty-one of the period for five days, for the next six cycles.

If you are going to be sexually active, then use of tablet Krimson 35, will be of help as the oral contraceptive pill and to regularise the menstrual period. Also, if needed please start on thyroxin tablets depending on the level of TSH hormone, in consultation with your treating doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
