Suggest Treatment For Irritation And Difficulty In Focussing Despite Taking Vyvanse

My daughter is 13 years old and weighs 125lbs. She has been diagnosed with ADHD since the age of 6 by a professional. She is on a Vyvanse dosage of 50mg, but has only been on this dosage for a year and a half. Within the past few months I have noticed a change in her behavior. She seems distant, irritable after school, her grades are going down and says she is finding it harder to focus. We are also giving her a natural supplement called Attention along with her 50mg except for weekends. On the weekends when she is not on it, we have a totally different kid on our hands. She is laughing, talking and full of life. We have tried Ritalin, Adderall and Concerta. I am not sure if a different medication or dosage, whether lowering it or increasing it would help. We want the full of life kid we see on the weekends.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Vyvanse medication usually helps many kids with ADHD. If such patient comes to my clinic, I would recommend discontinuing the natural supplement and consulting the treating psychiatrist, wherein dose or medication may be changed usually after an evaluation, if needed. Regular visits to her psychiatrist and change of the dose of medication usually helps in improving the quality of life with ADHD.

In the meanwhile, taking deep breaths, practicing yoga, meditation, hobbies, going for walk/jog in park, regular exercises, playing with pets, spending more time with family and loved ones, etc. may be helpful.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Regards,
