Hello,
Accessory navicular bone spurs can feel like a hard lump or bump underneath the skin. Activities that can contribute to bone spurs include dancing, running, and exercise. Causes include injury to the foot, obesity or being overweight, wearing tight shoes and
osteoarthritis. Clinical examination by an orthopedic surgeon and X-ray can diagnose the accessory navicular bone.
The treatment consists of treatment of underlying risk factors like
weight loss, changing shoes or wearing paddings. Place a cold pack or
heating pad on your foot for 10 to 15 minutes, several times a day.
Cortisone injection for pain relief and to reduce inflammation. Pain medication like NSAIDs Ibuprofen and Naproxen can be taken twice daily for 2 weeks.
Take tab. Pantop to avoid gastric irritation. Special walking boots help in relieving the pain due to spurs. If all the above measures fail and symptoms persist or increase, surgical approach is the treatment of choice.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
