yes I am 72 yrs old started having itching all over my body, it started gradually . now I am unable to sleep. saw my md who recommended a dermatologist. I saw a Dermatologist last Friday he ordered Zyrtec 10 mg dly. It might be good to try to keep your skin hydrated by using oils when you bath and highly moisturizing creams after bath and at least once a day (pertolium or vaseline is a good option). You can also continue with the Zyrtec at night.
If you notice no improvement with these in a week or two you will need to see your doctor again. If you have skin lesions, then infections or other skin conditions needs to be ruled out.
If you do not have skin lesions (but just scratching signs due to the itchiness) then blood tests need to be done to rule out liver problems or other problems that might be the cause like: CBC, ERS, ALT, AST, bilirubine, alkaline phosphatase, TSH, FT4, glucose, lipids, creatinine and electrolytes, etc.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
