Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have intense itching below my knees, also my lower legs swell up and turn very red. What could be causing this? I do not have indoor pets and rarely go outside. It s driving me crazy. I have itch relief spray that helps but the symptoms almost immediately return. Thank you Pat Vaughn
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Swelling of lower legs and redness may explain the itches you feel. However, the cause of the swelling should be investigated.Possible causes may include: Local leg soft tissues infection, Renal, cardiovascular or liver problems.... I will suggest you see the Doctor for investigation. An ECG, a renal function test and liver function tests will be very important.A BP check and blood glucose level will also be good. You may however try the following: -Take a diuretic like furosemide -Elevate legs while lying -Take an anti-histamine like benadryl if itches intense Your may prescribe you antibiotics if the swelling is of infectious origin. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
