Suggest Treatment For Itchy Hives On Scalp

I am having some itching and hives. The itch actually started on my scalp where I have thinning hair, and I thought maybe I had inadvertently gotten a sunburn, (I always wear a hat if I am planning to be in the sun for any extended time) now the itching is mostly on my neck and chin. Thought the Neutrogena sunscreen may be the problem as I hadn t used it on my face before, but changed to a coppertone for face and no changes, now I am using a Cerave sunscreen and had the same reaction today. Cortizone cooling is minimally helpful. I a allergic to Benadryl, but am taking Zyrtec. ( Benadryl makes me sleepy but the hives and other symptoms of the allergy continue to get worse)

Hello,

Hives are raised, red patches of skin that are usually very itchy. You may need to see your doctor if you have trouble breathing, tightness in the throat, nausea and vomiting, cramps or stomach pain, passing out. If you have hives more than 6 week, you will probably need to take medicines everyday to control them. First step for treatment to have to figure out if anything triggered the hives.

If so, you will need to avoid that trigger. Benadryl can cause sleepy but I don't know what kind of allergy to Benadryl that you have. If just concern about sleepy you may need to take it only at the night combination with Zyrtec. However, talk to your doctor if you are very concern about if it not improve you may need steroid to help you hives symptom.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
