Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 65,have had menopause for 15 years and have hot flashes every so often. During a resent bout I have developed hives, itching on underarms, hives especially where I have warm areas. Doctor prescribed a steroid for 18 days but it did nothing. If I take an Allergra in am that works until midnight than the hives come back but not bad enough to take something. I take a good vitamin and extra c. Is the menopause and hives related maybe something to do with histamine?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of itchy hives on the armpit. It is the body's response to the trigger factor . Insect bite , pollen and some plants can also cause hives. Our environment , heat , cold , pressure and sun exposure are other factors responsible for this. The most important thing is to find the trigger factor. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to give cold compresses to hives several times a day to prevent from swelling and itching and take over the counter antihistamine drug like benadryl. If symptoms still persist the consult dermatologist for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may perform skin test and challenge to find out the trigger factor . Doctor may prescribe other steroid cream ( mometasone) , anti inflammatory drug or drugs that can suppress immune system. Herbal tea and aloe vera gel are also very helpful . Stay in cool environment .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
