Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rash On Forearm

I have a itchy rash on my forearm. It almost looks like a series of bug bites as its not really red inbetween. It feels like something is crawling underneath my skin and then I find myself scratchy like crazy and bleeding. Cortizon cream has helped a bit but it is not going away. Could this be part of shingles? I had chicken pox as a child. Thank you...

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of itchy rash on forearm which seems to be due to contact dermatitis. It could be due to excessive exposure to sunlight as well. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction,psoriasis , skin infection, fungal infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to keep your skin clean and dry , protect it from sun , apply only petroleum jelly and take antihistamine like benadryl twice a day. If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may order certain test like skin patch test , blood test , allergy test and take history to rule out the side effects of certain drug . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with anti inflammatory and corticosteroid ointment . Doctor may also prescribe antifungal like fluconazole or anti bacterial like clindamycin .
