Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes After Injurying Forearm

I slipped on a flight of stairs banged my forearm pretty. Bruised immediately and scratched up from elbow to middle of forearm. Had pins and needles in fingers Went to urgent care on broken bones. and then orthopedist the next day to be sure. It was splinted once the splint came off it started to itch and when getting the X-rays too. Bruised my ulnar nerve pretty bad. Dr said, it will just take time to heal. It has been five days now bruising is changing color which is normal but it has been itching, hivy and becoming a rash now. The rash hurts so much which caused more pain to the nerve. Why is this happening? What can I do to stop it

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I think you are having an allergic reaction over the area and advise you to take an antihistamine tablet like Cetirizine or Pheniramine Maleate which are available over the counter. It would relieve you of the itching and reduce the irritation. You could also apply local ointments containing pheniramine maleate.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
