Suggest Treatment For Itchy Ring Worm Infection On Chest
Hi, My 12 year old got ring worm from her friends kittens on her chest area - I have tried every cream and even tea tree oil. The advice nurse said 4 weeks to go away and to not use cortizone 10 cream but calamine lotion and anti fungus cream 2-3 times daily. It is itchy and slight painful for my daughter. What shoud I do as a mother? Thanks.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Jay Patel's Response
Hi,
The chances of your daughter having ring worm may be higher but at this point there is a second condition which appears similar to ring worm know as 'nummular eczema' may be a possibility Take your daughter to the skin specialist to do perform KOH test of samples of the skin cells by sending them to a laboratory for testing. It will help to differentiate between two above possibility. After testing is done the physician will prescribe for ring worm - oral anti-fungal which has higher strength along with topical.
For eczema - tropical steroid will be prescribed. Avoid chemicals and metals if your condition is caused by a sensitivity to them. Stay hydrated to help clear up skin patches while preventing new ones. Bathe only in lukewarm water. A few minutes after that, apply some fragrance-free moisturizer.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
