Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
The upper part of my wife s back itches most of the time. A Dermatologist has said it is caused by dead nerve endings. We have tried a number of anti-itch medications (creams and lotions) and other than Lanacane, nothing seems to work. And it only works for a short while. Some lotions have actually caused a rash to break out, which she didn t have before. Any suggestions?

Suggest Treatment For Itchy Skin On The Back
Hi, If it is related to nerve disease then you would need treatment directed towards the nerves. There are medications that treat nerve-related symptoms eg amitriptyline, Tegretol, lyrica, gabapentin, etc It may be best for her to see a neurologist for assessment. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
