Hello. I just went to my chiropractor because my jaw hurts terribly. I thought it was misaligned. My doc said my lymph nodes were swollen along my neck. I cannot chew solid food right now due to jaw pain. I am also dizzy and have had nausea on and off. Do I just need some good R&R or sholdl I be making an appointment to see my regular doc?
As per your query jaw pain is because of temporomandibular joint dislocation as it is formed when condyle of jaw glides on skull and in between them articular disk act as cushion. Sometimes articular disk may not be big enough, or it may not be the right shape to allow the jaw bone to smoothly glide forward and down when you open your mouth and creaking sound occurs which is crepitus. Need not to worry about it. It will not cause you any problems as it normally happens in many individuals. Whenever popping occurs try to relax jaw and don't chew gum or any other hard foods. Mouth guard is an effective treatment method for this. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation of jaw muscles is an effective physical therapy way. Muscle-relaxing drugs, such as Cyclobenzaprine is effective for tightness of muscles. Surgery is an treatment option after proper examination by oral surgeon if your condition really troubling you.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
